Happy New Year to all the Best Camping Gear Reviews readers out there! 2010 is going to be great for Best Camping Gear Reviews. We have some new ideas planned to make the main camping gear site and this camping equipment blog even better. Sorry about the absence from the last post but we have been busy doing the family things and then the holidays got in the way.
Over the holidays Best Camping Gear Reviews had the opportunity to go to Brian Head, Utah and also to Zion National Park in Utah. Wow both places were awesome. Those trips have inspired Best Camping Gear Reviews to expand our website and blog so that we cover all outdoor gear and sports.
Another idea that we had was to start promoting sales on camping gear sites. That is what today’s blog is about. We found some Cabela’s coupon codes that will help you save some money the next time you order some camping gear from Cabela’s.
Right now if you go to the Cabela’s official website you can save $20 on your next order of $100 or more. This offer is only good until January 11, 2010 so you have to act quick.
As we all know Cabela’s has everything you need for camping and all other outdoor sports. One thing we really haven’t talked about on this camping gear blog is shooting gear. While this isn’t a police gun review site, there are a lot of people that like to shoot in the wilderness. Cabela’s has a ton of shooting gear for to you choose from. They offer ammunition, rifles, shotguns, black powder, and many more accessories. Another great place to find shooting gear are at police gear stores.

Garmin Oregon GPS devices
As we start 2009, new camping gear is being introduced almost daily. Camping equipment manufactures are always pushing the technology limits and coming up with better camping gear. The other day I was at one of my local camping gear stores and saw the new Garmin GPS devices. The Oregon Series by Garmin has some great features.
The Garmin Oregon 200 GPS is a little over 4” tall and 2” wide. It features a 3” 65k TFT touch screen display, 400 x 200 pixel output, and a USB cable for easy downloads. The Oregon 200 is a rugged, touch screen, reliable GPS device. With new programs installed on the device, this is a very user friendly handheld GPS device. The Garmin Oregon 200 GPS costs about $450.00.
The Garmin Oregon 300 GPS handheld device features all the same features of the Oregon 200 but has 384 mb of internal memory, the capability to produce 3-D maps, and a barometric altimeter that monitors weather conditions. The Garmin Oregon 300 GPS device costs about $500.00.
The Garmin Oregon 400T GPS device has the same features of the Oregon 300 with much more! The Oregon 400T has a 400 x 240 pixel output, preloaded topographical map database and a barometric altimeter with an electronic compass.
All of the Garmin GPS devices can be purchased at your local camping equipment stores such as Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, and Sports Authority.

Dutch ovens
Best Camping Gear Reviews loves Dutch ovens. For those of you that don't know what a Dutch oven is, A Dutch oven is a thick-walled iron (usually cast iron) cooking pot with a tight-fitting lid. It is commonly referred to as a "camp oven" in the Australian bush, "cocotte" in French, and as a "casserole dish" in British English. Dutch ovens are very common as camping gear and camping equipment.
There are many Dutch oven manufactures. Perhaps the best Dutch oven manufacture is Lodge Logic. Lodge Logic makes several good Dutch ovens in different sizes. The most popular Lodge Logic Dutch oven is the 6 quart model. The Dutch oven is made of cast iron for added durability, but is a bit on the heavy size as a result of the cast iron. The Lodge Logic Dutch oven can be purchased at your local camping gear stores such as R.E.I. or Cabelas.
Best Camping Gear Reviews has recently added a section to the camping equipment site specifically for Dutch oven recipes. As time passes, Best Camping Gear Reviews will have chicken, meat, desert, and many more Dutch oven recipes listed. If you have a favorite Dutch oven recipe, please email it to us.

Brunton Eterna binoculars
Sorry that there hasn't been a post for a few days. I have been out of town for work and just haven't found the time to write about any camping gear. Recently I was at my local REI camping gear store and saw the Brunton binoculars. I have only owned Bushnell binoculars in the past but really liked the look of the Brunton binoculars. REI carried several different models that ranged in price from $48 to over $1,000. Some people might think that spending $1,000 for a pair of binoculars is crazy, but it all depends on what your need is. I know a few people that have expensive binoculars that are police officers and they use them daily as part of thier of police equipment.
The Brunton binoculars that I really liked were the Brunton Eterna 8 x 45 binoculars. The binoculars are nitrogen filled to ensure a stable interior environment for fog-free, waterproof protection. Other features include emerald fire fully multi-coated optics that block out harmful UV rays and increase light transmission by reducing reflected light, and Bak-4 roof prisms that offer excellent light transmission for sharp images. Perhaps the greatest feature is the constuction of the Brunton Eterna binoculars is that they are made wth an alloy and polymer frame that has an ergonomic rubber armor to protect the binoculars from bumps and falls while providing a good grip. I really think I'm going to splurge and add these binoculars to my collection of outdoor gear.
The Bruton Eterna binoculars cost about $400 from REI but I'm going to look at some other camping equipment stores in the area such as Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas. I might even head down to the local San Diego police equipment store and see if they carry the Bruton binoculars. I will keep you posted on this purchase!

Aerobed Air Mattresses
A lot of campers will say that you aren't truly camping if you have an mattress as part of your camping gear. Those are probably the same people that say put away your Kelty tent and sleep under the stars in your Slumberjack sleeping bag.
Well, I disagree! If I'm going camping, I'm going to have a little comfort also. Just last summer I purchased an Aero Products air mattress. Thier air mattresses are called the Aerobed air mattresses. I am very glad that I bought one of these to add to my collection of camping equipment.
The first night that I used it, I slept like a baby. The air mattress is durable, sturdy, and very comfortable. It sits about 9" off the ground and compacts very easily. The air mattress is also very easy to inflate and deflate.
I purchased my Aerobed air mattress at one of my local camping gear stores. I know that large camping equipment stores such as REI, Cabelas, and Sports Authority carry air mattresses also.
Have a great Holiday!
